Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy deals with the diagnosis, prevention and rehabilitation of mobility, and its purpose is to improve bodily function due to congenital or developmental problems, or following trauma or surgery.
The physiotherapy team at Raphael Hospital is under the leadership of Gilad Ron, a physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience in both public and private medicine.
Here at the Raphael Physiotherapy department, we understand the significance of immediate treatment following surgery. We pay close attention to the surgeon’s instructions, and make sure that patients have all the tools they need to guarantee a smooth and safe release home after the surgery.
Purpose of the Treatment
Many surgeries, mostly orthopedic surgeries, require a rehabilitation period.
The objectives of rehabilitation are to help you return to optimal independence, meaning maximal mobility, following surgery, and to ensure that you are able to perform basic functions and have as much independence as possible in the post-surgery period.
The Treatment
The first step, once you arrive at the inpatient ward, is a comprehensive introductory talk with a physiotherapist about your expected rehabilitation process.
The physiotherapist will come to your room and describe the rehabilitation process and guide you through your independent exercises. Your personal guidance will include exercises tailored to the specific surgery and surgeon. We will train, teach and practice with you, and answer any question, with the aim of enabling you to continue the rehabilitation process in your home and quickly regain your independence.
You will initially perform your physiotherapy exercises in your hospital room. The aim of the practice is to improve mobility and put you at ease by providing you with clear and certified knowledge.
What should I bring to the hospital?
We recommend arriving with wide and open shoes, to allow for easy movement, and enable you to perform your exercises.
It is advisable to consult your surgeon about the need for walking aids, such as a walker, crutches or any other accessory that may be required. You may borrow rehabilitative orthopedic aides from Yad Sara or Ezer Mitzion even before you check in to the hospital. This way, the nursing staff can guide you and practice with you using your personal equipment while you’re still at the hospital.
Release
If necessary, you may be entitled for continued treatment after your release, as part of the services covered by your Kupat Cholim (health insurance) or in other rehabilitative institutions.
